Petition for Program Variance

Allows School of Engineering students to petition the following:

  • To take a course prerequisite concurrently with that course
  • To substitute a required course (UC Merced courses only)
  • To substitute a technical elective (UC Merced courses only)
  • For students requesting Requisite overrides for technical electives, DSA, MIST courses please complete the Requisite Override Form

Please be advised, that if you did not receive an email confirmation within 12 hours, then the appeal was not submitted, and you will need to file another appeal for consideration.

**Note: Petitions will be reviewed three times per semester: (1) Prior to the first day of courses (2) Before next term (Fall/Spring) Registration Window opens and (3) After the term has ended**

Technical electives should be selected in a manner that is complementary to, yet integrated with, your major area of study. When petitioning to use a class outside your major for a technical elective credit, you will need to provide a compelling description of why the course integrates into your educational plans.

In detail, please describe the reason for your requested variance. Make sure to mention the course(s) you are referring to. Why do you need a variance?
