Students entering UC Merced School of Engineering as freshmen are expected to graduate within ten (10) semesters. In limited situations, a student unable to complete all degree requirements within the allotted time may submit a petition for additional time. Additional time is granted for reasons beyond a student's control (i.e., illness, disability, parenting responsibilities, etc.). Such permission is rarely granted and is then typically granted only to allow for completion of minimum degree requirements.
Approval is not guaranteed.
Extension of enrollment to complete a minor, do research, or take electives will not be approved.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Meet with your academic advisor to discuss the need for an additional semester.
2. Fill out this petition.Complete a personal statement explaining the circumstances that support your request for an exception to University policy, and the rationale for why you will be unable to complete your degree within the allotted time period.
3. Submit this petition and documents.
You will receive an email when a decision has been made.
